Through this His dark materials series the theme was whether letting children know the truth is a temptation or not. They can't do what you don't let them know. This attitude reveals that you don't believe the children.

A boy said,"I can't choose my nature, but I can choose what I do."(p.418) In other scene a mother was said like this, "why don't you explain it to her and give her the choice?"(p.141)

On the otherhand, I can find some thoughts opposite to the remarks above."The intentions of a tool are what it does."(p.181)

I often wonder whether science and technology itself is good or evil. Thinking of atomic bombs, it seems evil.Thinking of medical technology such as MRI, it seems good. Then, does it depend on the users' choice, that is, users' will?

Ignoring people's choice and keeping them off the knowledge might deny the growth of human being. The older you get, the more knowledge you get. The knowledge includes some ways of using knowledge itself.

"I stopped believing there was a power of good and a power of evil that were outside us."(p.447)

At least as far as I'm concerned, I have to take responsibility for my deeds. Because it is my choice that decides which my deeds are good or evil. "because he's Will"(p.92)
